Since, Hollywood executives appear to have slowly taken notice, rolling out movies that are not only successful, but also embrace diversity.

It seems that for almost every major piece of mainstream LGBTQ cinema that comes out, a debate continues to rage: should straight actors be playing gay characters or should those roles be reserved for gay actors alone?
These emphatically straight celebrities keep getting labeled as gay or bisexual despite usually politely disputing the rumors. Fueled in part by a decades-long friendship with journalist Gayle King, Oprah Winfrey for years faced rumors about whether the two in fact shared a romantic connection. I mean, I get hit on by the hottest girls ever.
Looking back on Rock Hudson's movies with Doris Day, they seem infused with a camp sensibility, derived not least from the fact that Hollywood's main romantic icon of the s was, in real life, a gay man. But inwhen the world first learned that Hudson was dying from an AIDS-related illness, the truth about his sexual orientation came as a shocking bolt from the blue. Although the fact was well known in Hollywood society, the publicity machine that stood between him and the movie-going public had created an impenetrable smoke screen, preserving his ideally heterosexual image for almost 40 years.
While not a panoramic picture of representation in Hollywood, it is nevertheless a good barometer of how Hollywood is doing. The study is both clear and actionable: it identifies areas where Hollywood is deficient, uses data to back up the claim, and offers remedies. And yet every year, the picture looks the exact same: despite recent movements for more diversity on screen, Hollywood is still all about straight white men when it comes to big blockbuster movies.
