A vintage wooden toy piano converted into an open-source, standalone polyphonic digital synthesiser, the winning project of the Element14 Music Tech Design Challengeas well as being voted Project of the Year in the Element14 Community Awards I felt like the next logical step in this series of projects would be to attempt to convert the piano into a standalone synthesiser; an idea inspired by my day job at Modal Electronicsso when Element14 announced their Music Tech Design Challenge I saw it as a perfect opportunity to attempt this. My main aim of the project was to allow the existing key mechanism and enclosure of a vintage wooden toy piano to act as a fully functional standalone digital synth. Here are some sound demos of the synth, using a custom appplication on my MacBook to load patches within the synthesiser.
